The Agreement between Konrad Adenauer Foundation and BGU

A three year cooperation agreement was recently between the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Centre for the Study of European Politics and Society was recently signed in Berlin. The purpose of the agreement is to strengthen and cultivate the cooperation between the two institutions and is seen as a consequent continuation of the excellent relations between the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and BGU.

Chancellor Konrad Adenauer was steadfast not only for laying the foundations for the establishment of official diplomatic relations between the Federal Republic of Germany and the State of Israel together with Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, but also played a central role in the beginning of the European integration process. There might be no place more symbolically appropriate for teaching European studies than at the BGU - not far from the place of the historic meeting between the two statesmen.

The influence of the European Continent, with the European Union at its center, on the Middle East and on global issues is continuously growing. Today Europe plays a key role in shaping the global agenda with strong implications also for the Middle East and for Israel in particular.

Both partner institutions are convinced that it is of utmost importance to work in Israel for a better understanding of European developments, to enhance the relations between Israel and the EU further, and deepen these relations as the basis for closer cooperation between Israel and the European Union.

Therefore, the common goal of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Centre for the Study of European Politics and Society is to promote greater awareness within Israel of the growing importance of Europe and of the European Union, and to offer the wider public in Israel, and in particular, students, the opportunity to learn about contemporary political and social developments in Europe.
